The Big Apple from Keep Punching (1939)

A colourised version of the Big Apple routine from the 1939 film Keep Punching, performed by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. The Big Apple was a group circle dance in which a caller shouts out steps, and this sequence mixes that format with Lindy Hop and solo jazz moves. Watch the call-and-response structure, the shifting between circle and couples, and the strong individual personalities in the troupe. Colourisation is modern and imperfect, but it makes the clothes and setting easy to read.
