Harvest Moon Ball: Shag and Lindy Hop
Footage labelled as the Harvest Moon Ball, with Shag and Lindy Hop on show. The Harvest Moon Ball was a large New York dance contest, and the title itself questions the 1939 date, so treat that as uncertain. The clip captures competitive social dancing from the era, with couples working in front of crowds. Watch the different styles side by side, from the upbeat shag steps to the swinging Lindy footwork, and the differing degrees of showmanship.
