Willa Mae Ricker, Whitey's Lindy Hopper
A short tribute to Willa Mae Ricker, one of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, who appears in the troupe's best-known film appearances. Ricker was a Savoy dancer renowned for her dynamic, athletic style. Watch her footwork, the way she uses her whole body in time with the music and how she responds to the lead. A good example of the female dancers' skill and presence in the Harlem scene, often overshadowed in popular accounts.
