About Hotcha Paul and the Head Honchos
Hotcha Paul and the Head Honchos play 1930s-inspired swing chosen from bandleader Paul Crook's own collection of shellac 78s: tunes associated with Cab Calloway, Nat Gonella, Slim Gaillard, Billie Holiday, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson and Ambrose among others. The band was formed by Paul Crook and Niall Oates after a run of rehearsals held online.
What makes them special for dancers is that everyone in the band has spent years on the swing-dance scene, as musicians or as dancers. Paul is a long-time Lindy Hop and Balboa dancer, and Niall has taught and performed Lindy Hop, so they know exactly what tempos and grooves get a floor moving. The six-piece line-up includes vocals and guitar, double bass, piano, drums and two trumpets, and their site lists vintage music festivals and clubs for 2026.
