Shorty George and Big Bea
Footage of George 'Shorty' Snowden, a figure legendary in Lindy Hop's early history, with his partner Big Bea. Snowden is credited in dance lore with being among the first to build breakaway steps into the Lindy, and the 'Shorty George' step still carries his name. Watch the bent-kneed, grounded movement and the playful humour in the pairing of a short man with a tall woman. A glimpse of the era before the dance became a polished stage act.
