About Cambridge Lindy Exchange (CLX)
Cambridge Lindy Exchange, usually shortened to CLX, is the weekend exchange run by Cambridge Swing Dance CIC, a volunteer-led not-for-profit company. The 2026 edition starts on Friday 30 October. The main venue is Storey's Field Centre in Eddington, on the edge of the city, with a licensed bar where you can still bring your own soft drinks and food. The Saturday after-party is at Marleigh Community Centre, which has no bar, and a Sunday pub session takes place at the Old Spring. There are five parties with live bands, including a late-night blues session. The 2026 line-up was The Swing Shouters from Tours, Harry Evans and His Flying Squirrels from London, Django's Tiger and Dr Burns, who plays late sets. Alongside the dancing there are taster sessions, board games, chill-out time, cake and a murder mystery. The FAQ describes it as an exchange for all swing dancers however long they have been dancing, so it suits social dancers of any level who like a friendly weekend with live music. Visiting dancers can ask for a bed, sofa or floor space from local dancers through the event's Facebook discussion. The event follows the STEPS safer spaces code, and an Access to Dance code takes money off the price for people who could not otherwise afford to come.
What to expect
Tickets are sold in advance and the organisers say the event normally sells out for both leaders and followers, so book as soon as sales open (in the past this has been the start of August). A waiting list runs once tickets are gone, and returned places appear on Dancecloud while they last. Only the Sunday tea dance can be bought on the door (GBP 15 in 2026). Free parking is at the Madingley Road park and ride, and buses run from the station and city centre. A CLX T-shirt can be ordered when booking.
New to festivals?
Most UK weekenders welcome improvers and up, and many add a taster or beginners' track – check the organiser's page. Our guide to swing festivals covers passes, tracks and what to pack.
