About Summer Tyne Swing (Newcastle)
Summer Tyne Swing is Swing Tyne's summer festival in Newcastle. The 2026 edition ran from 5 to 7 June at Northumbria University Students Union, about 900 metres from the main station. Three teaching streams covered Lindy Hop, Balboa and Collegiate Shag, led that year by Marcos and Roser (Lindy Hop), Fancy and Vasu (Balboa) and Jordan and Charlotte (Collegiate Shag). The classes were Beginner-Improver Lindy Hop, Intermediate-Advanced Lindy Hop, Intermediate-Advanced Balboa and Intermediate-Advanced Collegiate Shag. Friday night had House of the Black Gardenia, Saturday had the IKS Big Band from Germany with an afterparty from midnight to 3am, and Sunday ended with a tea dance featuring Swing Tyne's own band, the Magpies of Swing. It suits dancers with some experience who want a weekend of lessons and live bands in the north east. The Beginner-Improver class is aimed at people with roughly six months or more of Lindy Hop who are comfortable with basic rhythms, partner connection and social etiquette, and the page lists no true beginners' class.
What to expect
In 2026 the full pass was GBP 120 early bird (GBP 85 concession) rising to GBP 130, and a social pass covering three nights and Sunday afternoon was GBP 70. Some intermediate-advanced classes sold out. Financial help is available by emailing the welfare address on the page. Haymarket Metro is nearby and Newcastle Airport has a direct Metro link.
